Mile High

Mile High

A Poem by Neville

Mile High

Long before

the wax began

to soften even

And the moult

commenced

his ivory plumage shed

He dreamed of flying

with her

a mile above their bed

I thought of Icarus here Neville. He was so intent on high flying he got too close to the sun and we all know what happened to him. This poem though speaks to me of disappointment. Of something which didn't turn out quite as planned. And then I thought of airplanes. Visual with a tinge of sadness here. Nice little piece of brevity which speaks volumes about relationships.

High-flying lovers need to be weightlessly naked to keep the bind tight - and they can do that in dreams - -- loving the undercurrent of your poetically emotive lines my friend..............x

I could feel the wax melting and the wings loosening and falling off! The dream to fly beyond things worldly came to a sad end. This is superb poetry sir!

............ how very true, thanks :)
I've had a lifelong hankering for Icarus . . . but every time I get about a mile high, all the wax melts & my feathery constructions flutter away in the breeze. I love how your poem gives us the slightest hint of what's going on while painting fulsome vistas in our minds. I love how you bring new understanding to the ancient mythology (((SOAR))) Fondly, Margie

Beware Greek dudes with wings mate, they're completely mental.
But then again, mile high is certainly in my top three ways to go, behind becoming a zombie and drug fuelled sex heart attack 😀

Love the allusions in this one. Short but just how it often is. Sigh. But the dream was good and we always come back for more!
