Silly Me

Silly me,

but long ago now ..

I once

threw each letter

of your name

and yes,

in the right order ..

Into an

old wishing well

and called

upon the gods to

grant me just one ..

Then I burnt

three small green

candles ..

Each with your

name carved upon ..

And swore

upon the graves

of those

I once loved

I would find you

again,

or would die

in the searching ..

Silly me,

at the time I was

quite unaware

you had

banished me

and that

wishing wells

worked for kids only ..

When we want something badly we hope beyond hope and this seems to extend to magical and superstitious behavior. Sometimes things are not meant to be and all the wishing in the world won't help. Furthermore forcing something may make it worse, I've striped out several screws that way. I love the short lines, mostly 3x2 and how that meter pulled this poem along to the end. Another great message Neville

Oh Nev, I love the staccato lines of this, how they break and leave me breathless for the next, as I scroll down with anticipation. You are truly one of the most romantic men I know. I love this. I really do!

thanks Ken :)
Wishing wells are an all ages thing but being banished by your love is not something that can be undone with a toss of a coin. It's a sadness meets silliness sort of poem and I adore the tender innocence presented.

my mistake .. forgive me if I thank thee though :)
How incredibly romantic this poem reads. I don’t see silly at all. I see and feel a heart busting with love. Banished though? Harsh punishment. What a wretch. Wishing wells have always been for everyone and always will. Poetry that touches the heart.

How very kind Chris .. Bless you my friend .. Neville
Wishing well was for kids only, damn what foul luck that is, or maybe it was a blessing in disguise. Maybe one will never know let’s hope it was a blessing!
