Unexpected Voicemail

"

She was doing her homework, quickly switching from different screens to compile all the information into a coherent fashion.  She was focusing hard as small beads of sweat begin to form and pool beneath her brow. Must finish before I sleep, she thought and then it happened.

“Ring, RIIIINNNNGGGG!!” Her cell phone became to ring insistently. Her fingers hovered over the key board, pausing and waiting for her commands so they can re arrange her complex thoughts in simple black and white text.  Should I answer?  Her choice was taken from her as the phone silenced and the voicemail icon appeared on her screen. She flicked it open and pressed one. The robotic woman’s voice came on, the pausing and waiting was getting to her. BEEP!  Her wandering mind returned to focus on the task at hand.

I love you, I miss you.”

Those six words released a torrent of emotions. Elation flooding her circuits causing severe overload. Her heart fluttered. Her cheeks bloomed precious circles of pink. Her breath came slightly faster. Reality softens around the edges. Rose tinted glasses sat upon her nose.

She was mistaken she had two messages and she only listened to the first one. She was grinned from ear to ear. Pressing a button, she pressed the phone against her ear, patiently waiting for the next rush of euphoria from those honeyed sweeten words.

“Please call me, baby. (pause) I love you Marci.”

She was still smiling while a single tear rolled down her now pale cheeks. Her name was Anya.

I really loved this story and it is something that has happened to me numerous times. The last time, while I was taking a bath, a woman left a message on my answering machine that said, "I'm so and so, your neighbor, I see smoke coming from your house and I think it might be on fire!" Thank goodness, I live in an apartment.

I thought this was awesome. I feel bad for her because he called her Marci. I would have cried too if a guy did that to me.

Haha, this is a cute one, and indeed, even a single line or two of lovely words could lighten a person's heart and bring someone a better day, even though the messages send to the wrong person.

Short and easy to read, yet keeping a very meaningful image to the readers. Good job! :)

I ve been known to send the wrong message but I just play it off. LOL I get way too many wrongs messages on my cell from all kinds. its a tad bit annoying. I had a friend get a message like this from her boyfriend(ex boyfriend) but he called her the wrong name. She was heated. People need to pay attention more. THANK YOU for the reviews. I ll be returning the luv soon.

When you message insure you have a secure line and the right person. My self I trust tech with little trust. A record keeping of five years should scare us. The poem is very good. It would be a large number how many folks sent the wrong messages. A excellent poem.
