The Touch of Absence

The Touch of Absence

A Poem by Astro
"

Absence

"
I have found new life in your absence
although not the life that carries me
not the life that exists outside my door.

I have found that life shines everywhere
I see it in the eyes of people in love
emanating fully and gentle as a child.

There is an abundance of life evolving.
Necessity being the mother of invention
and society advertising every necessity.

New technologies changing each day,
faster and more intelligent they become
they rule the world from your pocket.

I have found new life in your absence
it appears everywhere except within me
the life that was has left along with you.

I am now the empty outlet in the wall,
you were the shining lamp in my grasp
your brilliance gave me my life's purpose.

Now I have found new life without you,
a joyless life of solitude and of loneliness
magnified each time I feel your absence.

This piece is a great juxtaposition of happiness and saddness. You have found "new life", but is it really the life that you want? I have felt this way before...when one door closes, another opens, but the one that opens is not necessarily the beautiful portal that we were expecting. I believe that souls attach to one another, and when one is torn away, there is a sense of missing part of ourselves. Beautifully soulful.

Souls departed or simply in isolation are felt evermore. Thank you for this wonderful review.
The imagery and longing you display in this one...Astro...the reflective images cast a shadow of their whereabouts...the end line get at the heart of this verse:

Now I have found new life without you,
a joyless life of solitude and of loneliness
magnified each time I feel your absence.

I believe you capture your intent...you're welcome...
"i have found new life" that line promises such hope and rebirth, and then instead we get total emptiness...and that life is all around the speaker but not within..

wonderful poem here, and the metaphor in the next to last stanza is priceless...i wish i had written those lines...

good stuff, Astro.
