I Will Rebel

I Will Rebel

A Poem by Nico

this night without you
doesn't tend to end
I'll go and sleep but
only if I can find a dream
it has been easy to
loose you but it's
not easy to loose me...

you have left the sign
of your lips in my hands
but when I press my fists
together it escapes like sand
I've got to combat
I've got to resist
I can exist
even without you...

me - not me
I won't burn myself in this rage
I say no to your recall
I won't succumb
and I'm wondering what another
one would have done in my place
I know
he'd have said yes
but I'm different...

don't wait for the next day
to say "it suffices"
even when I might bite
my nails afterwards
it's my character
I'll be headstrong
but I wanna live
my way...

me - not me
I won't change my words
I won't fall if I stay
attentive on what I'm doing
me - not me
I'm not in at these conditions
you'll see
I am who I am
and I will mostly be a rebel....

In the aftermath of a breakup, there has to be some sort of rebelling against what was once the norm, a return to self-preservation and a purging of the influence of the person we once loved. That is the quandary of 'me- not me'. You're sorting out what is your identity and what is not. Well written and brutally honest.

A nice heart felt piece. Having gone through a similar situation it really speaks to me & my feelings well.
A good poem indeed

"it has been easy to
loose you but it's
not easy to loose me..." [loose = lose]

These lines really summed up a break-up for me. In the case of your poem, it seems to lead onto self-preserving determination, but in my case it links into self-hatred and how, at the end of the day, we're stuck with ourselves.

I found this piece really well-expressed.

Good write.
