Wonder

Wonder

A Poem by Nicole
"

just a free verse i wrote a while ago

"
Today’s world is so artificial
So fake
Almost everything is built on lies
People forcing themselves to feel a certain way…
Everyone acting
It’s like they’re just in a play
They just do whatever gets them what they want
What happened to love?
When people say
I love you
It doesn’t have meaning anymore…
I have to wonder
If it’s possible to find your soul mate
In the world of today
I think I am capable of loving
But am I sure?
Can I make myself fall out of love?
Because if I can,
Then how can I say I’ve found my one true love?
People are pretending to be friends with others
Then lying about them behind their back
People can’t say things to your face
Without a fight breaking out
There is always someone crying
Always someone sighing
Always someone fighting
Always someone giving up
Always someone oblivious
Always doubt…
There are the few that are happy
But for how long?
Why all of the divorces?
You thought you found the one
You were married for so long
And now it’s over
It’s gone.
And you can’t change it
What can you do?
Money can’t buy you happiness
Greed won’t lead to success
Once you’re gone from this world
You can’t take those things with you
Possessions are only something you can have on earth
And you won’t be here forever
When you move on
The only things you can take are
The love
The faith
The hope
The relationships
The happiness you found in these things…
Why must the world be so confusing?
Why can’t we say what we’re thinking?
Why is it so hard to love?
So hard to talk?
Why must I always be afraid of what someone else is thinking?
Why should we hide things?
Where’s the trust?
Why don’t people care?
Why are there so many questions,
Yet no answers?
Why are people cold?
A hug means the world to me
Affection is something I cannot live without
I need to feel the warmth of another
Being alone is good
But being alone forever is too much to handle
The warmth of another is comforting
I want my one true love
My soul mate
I want to believe that I will find him
I wonder if I have…
I wonder if it’s possible…
I wonder…

I find it both curious and sad that somebody that is 17 could have recognized the greater depth of plastic in the world and drawn such conclusions, and at the same time have left them with that resounding question in regards to their soul mate. I suppose I am jaded in my old age, but I remember that although there was always that certain amount of high school drama and people being fake at that age - I could never have made this bold and this true a statement about the world at large at that time. It took a very long time to reach this point. This is well something that I could have written something akin to... like any piece dealing with what I call the plastic in the world, I enjoyed this piece for that part - at the same time, as stated - it leaves me sad to think somebody so young should have come to this point in their life so early... yes, sad - but well done.

So many questions, and so few answers. I believe in soul mates.. more than one.. we come across friends that are soul mates.. co-workers that we were meant to meet. people in general... i believe if we have met and formed a bond - our souls connecting. However, I do understand what you mean by finding the one for us. we must not give up hope.. he or she will come to us - for as it is meant to be. Don't lose hope!
