![]() Lost PrideA Poem by Nicole Renee![]() Inspired by 'Takin' Off This Pain' by Ashton Shepherd![]()
Throwing the ring in your face, Pain fills up my heart like water in a pair of lungs, The tears stinging my eyes as I blindly turn away from you, The wind whispering into my ears as I faintly hear your voice From the third story bedroom, trying to ignore the scene Of sheets and lip marks all over your chest while You were intertwined with another, another who Had torn our lives apart now, the shock on her face Written on her face as you tried to say that it was for a play. How I wish I could laugh at your joke; What made you think that I wouldn’t know About the late nights at work and the poker games at Joe’s, Not noticing the mask over your voice each time you spoke to me While my friends tried to talk to me about it. But no, I wouldn’t listen, I wouldn’t take their advice. Making me realize that I was too late as I revved up the engine, Driving away in your convertible with the wind playing with my hair With the words ‘I remember when you gave me that ring Buzzing into my mind as the tears slowly dissolved away Onto my face and onto my broken heart…. © 2008 Nicole ReneeAuthor's Note
