Girl Drowning: Part 1

Girl Drowning: Part 1

A Poem by Nikolean

She is
but a drowning girl.
She is stuck
on the pinwheel of despair.
Her true colours have been effaced.

Help.

She has talent.
That's what they all say.
She has beauty.
That's what everyone says.
But they don't try to see her for her.
They only see the outside.
They don't know she's drowning.
Drowning in a wave of sorrow.

She tries,
they praise.
She is herself,
they object.
They tell her to be good.
That good little mask
they have come to know.

She's just their puppet, their tool
their clown that they can manipulate
however they want.
They never think about her,
how she thinks.
What she thinks.
It's only about how they think.

There once was a girl,
a shell of a girl,
a puppet of a girl,
a clown of a girl,
until, she saw
the light.
