Lovely

This is a little poem I created. The man in the poem blamed his struggle to love again on the woman who he loved before who he now remembers bitterly

I no longer want to love

because of the pain I feel

I no longer want to fall in love

for my wound has not healed

For love is now what I fear

it left me shedding my tears

my heart was thrown away

never to return someday

Love is never bittersweet

but a sour taste that never cease

never move on, never in peace

from the pain that never ease

No longer will I hear love’s lullaby

I’ll just look away and say goodbye

I can grow old without a second try

forgetting that for you I cried

My heart is empty but pain and anger

because of you I never loved another

You will never know the pain you caused

you never know the life you destroyed.

You are the only woman I love

a woman I cannot have

Not a single one can replace you

For I love and hate you.

NJ, this is such a raw and intense poem, packed with so much emotion. You so powerfully convey pain, despair, and loss with relatively few words. Your poem certainly speaks to most of us.

I believe your closing ("Not a single one can replace you... For I love and hate you") captures so well the pain and resentment we often feel with betrayal and lost love. We still love the person, but we hate the pain they've caused, and the wreckage left behind. Nice work. Keep writing.
