The Stereotype

The Stereotype

A Poem by Nishada's
"

As a Woman......Like a Woman..How come?

"

Dereliction, 'Propertarianism', Disregard!

Misunderstood as a perennial disadvantage,

Limited physical ability, a misconstrue!

Omitted honor of a 'gendered' reproductive body.

Do you find our minds as fragile as our voice?

We don't have what we want and we want what we don't have-

Perfect neglect of woman power;

The crude, carnal look pulls her back,

We, the women, are all midnight's children

Pushed to life's travesty!

Are we the sole guardians of culture?

Is this society made 'only' of women?

When a woman is labeled a 'prostitute', is it fair

To let go of ALL those men who gave 'her' the title behind masks??

Is the dress she wears to be blamed??

Oh my!! When admiration and appreciations reaches the toll for Sunny Leone,

Ordinary women leading mundane life either gets stripped in the streets of Assam

Or lose the inviolate womanhood besides the Uttar Pradesh paddy fields

by the so-called protectors - cops: Injustice, ain't it?

Daughter-dispreference takes a moral dimension,

Yet Religions unite against women's rights,

Sometimes women fall a prey to mendicant friars:

Discrimination, Insane patriarchy, well perceived,

Rental surrogacy and a Khap panchayat terrorizing women.

The gentle Soul is disallowed to wait at the entrance of a book repository

Where the crows fly free, and the ants knew no traffic signs

At the time of the day when the sun smiles brightly and slowly spreads

It's bedazzled rays across the entire lot, hotter as it gets,

And we celebrate the 66th year of Independence?

Is independence fulfilled?

Today we live in a society where

Purchased wives and "Missing" girl-babies,

Hegemonic practice of Dowry and the interlocked sex-selective abortions,

the Marital and Natal 'propertarianism'

Outnumber the purchasing(economically empowered) wives, sporting girls,

Lovable marriages and basically humanity!

Is it because in Genesis, it fell upon all women as a curse, as on Eve ?

The power in Mary Kom's bangled fists stands alone,

Irom Sharmila's lost voice iterates, long neglected,

Follett's unsung Constructive Conflict and criticized Obstacles to Integration,

And a lot more throwing the gauntlet for a reasonable living!

Shirking the responsibility,

Is the society adamant to show out in-discrimination?

Are the well-to-do treating their sons and daughters equally?

I am no longer a dour angry feminist,

But another unfading star pleading for a notice;

Calling out to the crowd:

“Appreciate the natural difference in existence,

Encourage her as she musters courage to deign on the present world,

Outcasts her ludicrous survival”;

To the Women, “let enlightenment arrive,

Break the Glass ceiling, Reach the Sky!!!"
