Being in her shoes

Happy International Women's Day to you. A few lines dedicated to you on this special day.

Studies, Sports, Fun
All restrictions named,
When I want to do,
Its not all the same,

Dress, behave, act,
So it will be appropriate,
What will the society say?
And the problems it will create,

Forget about harassment,
That happens all the time,
Blame me for everything,
For no fault of mine,

Your unwanted comments,
On my size and body,
Said unapologetically loud,
Ignored as normal by everybody,

The journey from being a daughter,
To sister, girlfriend, wife and mother,
Takes a heavy emotional toll,
That no one seems to bother,

Unappreciated, I wear so many hats,
Standing tall in storms,
Hiding the pain behind my smile,
Waiting for my day off.

Wonderful words of encouragement to hear. Education will make a difference to the way women are treated. We are equals, but we also have our own special qualities. Compassion being one of them. Thank you for this poem for International Women's Day. There is much work to be done. More in some parts of the world than others, but improvement is needed everywhere.
