The Girl On The Street

The Girl On The Street

A Poem by Nitin Menon

Monginis ! Is this Monginis ? I cried
When others are having lobster
Has someone in the family died ?
The girl on the street choked on her rice water

My jeans are Lee's not Levi's
I don't have friends to meet and greet
My internet speed is not nice
The girl on the street lives under a sheet

If I wear sandals to college I will be called a dork
I'm broke and I don't matter
Broke ! Did you say broke ?
The girl on the street burst into laughter

I don't have a XBox only a PC
Can you imagine using the mouse key as throttle ?
The girl on the street was too busy
She was playing with an old plastic bottle
