Soap Box

A Poem by Working Class Scarecrow
"

song i wrote a few weeks back...

"
and like that, we uncorked our concerns

and laughed in the faces of the lessons we'd learned

is this enough of a spark to ignite your fire

or do you think we're just commiting conspiracy to conspire

and if you haven't figured it out these reporters are liars,

and when they tell the truth they get fired

there isn't anything holy about war,

but you're probably busy checkin the world cup scores

while the real problems are drifting down slowly

and if i said this in the street you might pretend you don't know me

the people, that create these problems won't solve them

we've been given these lives but it's up to us to evolve them

revolve them, turn this mess around, put on the brakes and slow it all down

stand up and speak out, choose love over violence

i want a be a voice cause i don't feel right remaining silent

and if you watch enough T.V. you'll probably say i'm childish

but it's not childish to want to live outside this

and the darkness spreads til you're just floatin in space

but if you're light's bright enough things start to take shape

there's still sleep in my eyes but i'm starting awake

         9 to 5 job means 9 to 5 slave

i'm having trouble seeing how it makes sense

for me to do a job just so i can pay someone rent

i've been living in a tent, and that's enough for me

in some countries, that would be a luxory

in some countries kids ain't got food to eat

in some countries they don't have freedom of speech

so since i'm blessed with this ability

i feel compelled like it's my responsibility

to spread the message of my so called ideology

but the last time i checked ideal was a good thing

for the people out there who can't speak up

I'm standin on my soap box sayin enough is enough

it's not us versus them, it's us versus ourself

things get out of hand when our ego swells

and the darkness spreads til you're just floatin in space

but if you're light's bright enough things start to take shape

there's still sleep in my eyes but i'm starting awake

         9 to 5 job means 9 to 5 slave

                            9 to 5 job means 9 to 5 slave

                                           9 to 5 job means 9 to 5 slave

There's a good refrain here, and I enjoy the repetition. However, I don't see how the poem adds up to being about modern indentured/economic slavery.

Love it! Outspoken, loud and proud, And speaking up for what is wrong. In society and life in general. How the underdogs get kept down. And out of sight. They tune into the tv. And close their eyes to the real truth about. Robots in a robotic world. With no eyes to truly see with!

Last three lines are fantastic..these would be stellar song lyrics but they are so deep and insightful they still have power as a poem itself. Totally dig this
