Arson

A Poem by Nobah Dhee
"

Love destined to end in disaster.

"
The fire kisses and caresses the walls,
And these blue walls,
Enticed by heat,
Seduced by flames,
Led by desire,
Give in to the fire’s advances.
As she opens her heart,
He spreads across her.
Oh, how they complete each other.
He warms her soul,
She keeps him alive and bright.
Both
Lost in the moments of a dreamy smoke.

Their eyes lock,
Hands clutched firmly by the other’s.
Though they know their fate,
The couple is bound.
There is no escape.
And together they dance,
He, so dexterous and bold,
Skips about her surface.
There is no part of her that remains untouched.
He is exhausted at length,
But he goes on dancing with her.
Even though she trips and stumbles,
He jokes,
He smiles.
And they laugh,
And they drink the night away.
For tomorrow, they shall die.

She is no dancer now,
But she smiles and brings him close.
She takes him by the hand,
And leads his arm across the surface,
Painting a piece like no other.
A portrait forged in fire,
Fueled by admiration,
The expression in Art for which words cannot compare.
And it stings her at length,
But she goes on adding minute details.
Even though he dips and fumbles,
She jokes,
She smiles.
And they laugh,
And they drink the night away.
For tomorrow, they shall die.

Morning approaches,
And with it, the bittersweet moments.
So they laugh,
And they drink the seconds away,
But they do not die together.
He is whisked away in infernal smoke,
As his flames could not feed on her any longer.
And she alone is left
To bear the burden of survival,
As parts of her were left unburned,
Yet scattered.
She is broken.
He is gone.
And, bitterly, she laughs,
And she drinks the nights away,
Because it was better to burn
Than it would have been to rot.

Hi! This is the first piece I've written on here, as well as the first public piece, so I'd really appreciate any feedback! I'd like to know if the reader could miss something only I understood or implied as I've only ever written for myself. Thanks for reading.

About
I've come to love the written word and the many tales that can be told with it, so why not? I'm not sure if I have true potential or if these stories are better off left in my head (._.). I'd apprecia.. more..
