Squashed!

Was in half a goofy mood...so here's a half goofy write from me! hehe

 

Poised and confident I start the day

Come rain or storm or whatever may

 

I walk ahead with a determined mind

I’ll accomplish deeds of any kind

 

I’ll carry burdens ten times my weight

For it is ‘I’ who’ll determine my fate

 

In harmony with my brethren I will work

Ready to fight danger which may lurk

 

I am not cattle but follow I will

The teachings I’ve learned, I will fulfill

 

Together we are stronger, together we are one

With beliefs like this, battles have been won

 

Till a day came when I decided to rebel

Is that ‘cause of puberty? I wish I’d have lived to tell

 

So now my friends please listen to me

Together we’re stronger, together we’re free

 

Don’t be a fool like me and get lost

‘cause when I left you brothers, is when I got squashed!

Perhaps it is once again my being out in left field (though for the first time I wonder if there is a left field in ant heaven), but before reaching that humorous twist to the piece - we have a series of statements that have been so twisted over the years by so many politicians and rulers that it is not funny. I think there is where I find that little bit of magic wisdom in these half-goofy words. There are those that would take it all far too seriously, to the point that it would become oppressive and crush the human spirit. Yet, by introducing laughter, you introduce one of the most important elements of us being who we are - our ability to laugh. There is so much power to be found in being able to laugh. It reminds us not to take things too seriously. So as I laugh and read what came before the twist, I see a set of statements that are not that bad - for us all to work together toward a common good. Perhaps it is just because I am still asleep this morning and I am walking around out in left field (still wondering for the first time if there is a left field in ant heaven), but I have to say this was an amazing write - offering us much insight into our lives - what it is to work toward the right thing and what means to laugh... thank you for sharing this with us.

That's a nice piece, as a rule I don't care for rhyming poetry because most people don't have the vocabulary to maintain their creativity. Squashed and lost is a stretch but the flow is good.
