Another Swallow

Another Swallow

A Poem by Mary E. Green
"

This is something I wrote as my family has been through hell with an alcoholic.

"

Another bottle touches your lips

As the bitter taste goes down

Hiding out so that we don't know

Another swallow, what can it harm?

It's your own addiction

Your personal hell

Only you don't know

Another swallow, what can it harm?

Turns you frigid

Makes you mean

Changes your attitude but you don't care

Another swallow, what can it harm?

You gave it up years ago

When the last time put us through hell

And for once, you seemed to care

Go ahead, take another swallow, what can it harm?

Wow! It's simple, and extremely powerful. I can feel the coldness in it, but also intense emotion. It evokes a sense of giving up, of letting go of hope. I really enjoyed it.
