A Poem by Mary E. Green

Another random write from a while ago.

Sleep never comes easily
Passion is never without a price
Love, laughter, happiness; they never last
Belief, strength, and courage; they are all just a fad
Open up your eyes and admit to the truth; it’s a shame, I know
Loss, doubt, and self blame; those are the tools you have
Dig in a little deeper; you made your choice
Listen to the promise of forever; exiled into your own purgatory
The past grips you like a vise; it is too late to shake it
There is no more turning back; your path is set
Others have it worse; this is it for you, although you feel you deserve even more
Does not seem all that bad to some; yet you know me better than that
Turned your back on your beliefs; you watched as the Knight crumbled
The tears you shed were of your own making; the fault lies solely within you
The numbness inside is your self punishment; Lord knows it would be nice not to feel
Resigned to this fate; scared to death of the next phase
The pieces of a broken mirror lay scattered amongst the floor; piece by piece, you see the mess that you have made.
