Nothing Left of Me

Nothing Left of Me

A Poem by The Girl Who Loved Too Much

My head hurts,
My heart aches,
I look through the medicine cabinet,
For something to take,

The pain doesn't stop,
It only gets worse,
I pour myself a glass,
But I can't quench the thirst,

I try to sleep away the day,
But I only toss and turn,
My eyes wide open,
Tired from the tears, they burn,

I lose control, I suffocate,
It's hard to breathe at times,
The memories hit me hard,
I wonder how I haven't lost my mind,

I'm broken, I've bled out,
There's nothing left of me,
I'm just an empty soul,

All that's left: mere memories.

I love poetry that tells a good story. Sometimes i get confused about how to write a 'review', and i think that i am supposed to use a slide ruler somehow... and then i remember, what does it do to me. What happens to me when I read it? Sometimes nothing. And sometimes great flashes highlight my senses something brighter, lending images dear to me, be they pain or joy. And ever did this poem flash me. To a kid walking down a NYC street, stumbling into walls heedless of the tears streaming down his face, for having lost the love of his life; the next nine months, who knew where such tears came from? So i read your wonderful poem, and I become broken hearted again. I become, as you say, just an empty soul for that moment again. So, a good poem that breaks my heart. Weird right. If it didn't break my heart, I probably wouldn't have liked it as much as I did. Its good for me to know that these things too, are ok to feel. Nice write.

This is incredible. Good job- you eloquently depict the pain of losing yourself.
