They Told Me To Write a Love Poem

They Told Me To Write a Love Poem

A Poem by Czarina
"

Blah blah blah love.

"

The couple sitting right in front of me

Interlocking their fingers and their knees

If I tried to join the staring contest

I am drowned out by their intimacy

There is one phrase I despise the most

“Passionate sweet, sweet love making”

The thought makes me sick to my stomach

Next my breakfast spills on to the floor

The way your hair blows in the gentle wind

Apparently is supposed to knock me off my feet

Insert a Romeo and Juliet reference

A sentence about my heart swelling

How about how my brain is screaming?

“This lovey-dovey crap sure is stupid!”

They told me to write a love poem

Too lazy to use an ABAB rhyme

Hot feelings dragged straight from the gut

Spread dry across passé synonyms

As if society needs more stanzas

On the soft touch of hands

On a woman’s beauty, too

Something about longing

Something about embrace

Something, something, something, love

What is it about this waste you call “art”

Vomiting a freak obsession into words

Insert irrelevant Biblical allusions

Nobody even knows how to

Nobody even knows what it

Does any of this spell romance to you?

They told me to write a love poem

Not that I have a grudge against love

It's just that these cliché love songs

Are nothing but convoluted junk

Why not a poem on superheroes?

On Communist states?

On apocalyptic fates?

Anything but this blah

Blah blah blah blah blah blah

Yadda, yadda, yadda love

Roses are red and violets are blue

Rather write an elegy than another verse

Not that I am heartless inside

I know how to write a decent prose

Roses are red and violets are blue

But I cannot write more of such trash

Like head against his chest

Or arms around her waist

Or whispers in his ears

Or caressing her cheeks

Or-

NO NO NO NO NO

NO NO NO

NO

i hate them, i hate love poems

but i hate your love even more

They told me to write a love poem

I'm not jealous, why should I be?

Because this thing humans call love

Is nothing like the real thing

Don't tell me to write a love poem

Unless you know what love actually is

That's why Romeo and Juliet died

High on empty soliloquies

If love was merely one’s feelings

Might as well call it lust

Might as well call it lies

If I saw sincere love

Even just a tiny bit

Then yank a love song out of me

If the world knew of love

Even just a tiny bit

Then yank a love song out of me
