Legacy of Defeat

Once again the skies have darkened
Over a life that was unburdened,
The darkness slowly found her victim
Unrelenting in her dictum.

Her grasp is strong and merciless
She’s brave and timeless in her quest.
No running, hiding, or bemoaning
Will keep you safe from her embracing.

She’s out for blood and wants your soul
She’ll stop at nothing to get all.
Your life to her it does not matter
Another bonus; bigger, better.

She found me and I’m all alone
No cavalry to fight; I’m on my own.
She’s strong and tough and heartless
My pleas to her forever endless.

Peace, light and happiness I want returned
She doesn’t hear me; all that she’s spurned.
She’s gaining ground and I’m losing
This battle she’s so great at winning.

I fight her trying to be brave
But in the end I see a grave,
A grave that’s peaceful, laying claim
To the defeated girl who bears my name.
