Black Narcissus

Black Narcissus

A Poem by Omar Vega

Mountains form a ring
Around the loose sand
I walk the fractured earth
Belonging to my homeland
In search of the place
Where black narcissus grows

Past the final territory
Sullied by the hands of man
I catch a distinct scent
Wafting through the breeze
Ambrosia laced with asphodel
Mortality and the divine
It's what I came to find

A meadow stands before me
Black narcissus strewed across it
As far as the eye can see
I bend down and pluck a single flower
To inhale the familiar aroma

A sudden calm washes over me
Every ounce of fear vanquished
I close my eyes and let go
Of all the deep-seated pain

When I open my eyes
I see Elysium
