What Was She Thinking?

What Was She Thinking?

By Omegax45

It’s cloudy today.

Not surprising.

It is winter after all.

The forecast claims more clouds

But not snow

That is good.

It was cold.

Not cold enough for snow

But cold enough to make people

Want to stay inside.

I can’t, though.

I have to patrol the lake.

It’s my job to ensure

That no one’s in the lake

Or polluting it

The water’s too cold

And people had dumped

Garbage in it

I was simply driving by.

No one on the road before me.

That’s when I saw someone.

They were in the water

Floating in the Center

Staring at the sky

I called an ambulance.

Stopped my car.

Getting out, I dove into the water.

I swim towards the person.

It’s a young girl.

What is she doing here?

I grab her.

Pulling her towards shore.

She struggles.

I hold her tight.

The ambulance arrives.

Paramedics waiting for us.

I push her towards them.

They get her into the ambulance.

They ask what she was thinking.

She looks at them angrily.

Clothes taken and covered in a blanket.

Says she wanted to see the sky.

I think she is crazy.

I wrap myself in a blanket.

See the sky?

The clouds were covering the sky.

How could anyone see the sky?

The clouds are impenetrable.

Then I see it.

Where the girl was floating before.

A small ray of bright sunlight.

I look up to see a small hole.

A hole that quickly closed.

Leaving us to wait again.

Beautiful piece. Very different, and attention-catching. The part where the speaker saw what she was looking at was a surprising twist. I would want to see the sky too. Good job:)
