People Pleaser

People Pleaser

A Poem by Omikron

How long have I been a people pleaser
Not to know I cannot catch a breeze
A puff in the right direction
Where the winds of fulfillment blow.
I please them all, I abandon my soul
And they dance, they laugh
While I weep

Should I stop being a people pleaser
I would lead a lonely life
Empty of conversations and joy
But I do believe that I would finally
Feel the embracing, chilling breezes
Of long sought for freedom.

Best way to write...
if we become pleased with ourselves, we won't feel the need to get others' approval.
I like your honest baring it all poetry.

Interesting character sketch here, might even serve as a psychological profile. People pleasers seem to be driven by a need for approval, something they are unable to give themselves. The speaker here may be aware of this, may also be aware that the continual pleasing is lethal to self esteem. This understanding may eventually lead to freedom from the habit.
