Close Encounter

Close Encounter

A Poem by Omily

I could have killed you.

I shuddered, skidding to a halt;

I could have killed you,

And it would have been my fault-

Like when a crusader, mistaken,

Pierces the priest's heart, taking

Him to be an obstruction

To the Holy Land.

You are my goal,

My Olympian gold; let me

Harness the alchemy

Of your feathered supremacy;

Your majesty, raptor,

Your cyanide flight-

You're an arrow, teaching my

Windowpane to stay within reaching

Distance; what a

Jejune conclusion to think
I could ever kill you.
