One October Night

One October Night

A Poem by Megan Doeden

This frigid October night

reminds me of you.

The wind blowing your

soft whispers against my ear.

Leaves rustling and piling up,

as our memories once did.

In time they seem to be

fading a little more.

Blackening with each

passing year.

You know sometimes I wonder,

how I don't fall back into your gaze,

embracing your warmth's gratitude.

Forgetting who I was,

converting into someone

of a different nature.

Falling back into a dark hole.

Just a shadow of my own misunderstanding.

Embedded was an image of unreachable desire.

Carvings of unstable structures of love.

Our trust lost at sea.

I'll find my way back to you,

but it's not me anymore.
