Dejavu Tug of War

Dejavu Tug of War

A Poem by Kristen R. Heyl
"

Anyone else out there ever feel this way?

"

All she wants is to have someone
who will be happy with her company
and give her that loving look
that so many couples in love share.

She has followed her heart many times
only to be wrong about love
Time and time again
because it is the thing she wants the most
so she is quick to grasp onto the slightest possibility.

It vastly hurts her heart
each time she discovers
that she has been too quick
to grasp at the proverbial straws again.

After each time
she tells herself
she is going to be more careful
and take things slow
but each time
the slightest sign is shown
she is tugged into playing
the tug of war
with her heart and mind.

Her heart wants to grab on tight right away
and her mind says wait a while
for chances are it isn’t what you are looking for.

With each tug of war,
the scalding tears fall
and sobs wrack her body
until sleep takes over and
Lulls her into safety.
