An Uprising of Love

An Uprising of Love

A Poem by OneDayOneChapter
"

Given theme: Love What I ended up writing about: A young couple on trial simply for loving each other

"
Trumpets blare
And we're caught up in a cold stare
Bound here in iron chains
Facing a wrathful queen not lacking in brains
Silently, you take my hand
Though on me your eyes don't land
In this moment, we're good as dead
And it'll end with either my or your head
For mercy this wicked queen isn't known
Our lives taken for the kingdom to be shown
What she doesn't see, though
Is how this will all go
Too much have these people been through
They're not her toys to chew
They'll rise and take the throne
This cruel queen to be overthrown
And though none should die for who they love
I know this is what it will take, this shove
And so, my love, as I watch your head roll
A vow I've made, for this taken toll
No act of love will go punished
Not by hate or by queen of castle furnished
Released back home alone in grief, I'll stir the crowd
For your martyr, they'll scream loud
No longer will we be held in silence
We'll raise our voices, resist the violence
For your and others' sake, no more will we feel shame
In loving each other, for which there is no blame
