Orange and Blue

Orange and Blue

A Poem by Drea Dawson
"

Fall 2006

"
I always disapproved
Of the way your glasses
would reflect in pictures
Kept telling you to take them off
Let the world see them Baby Blues…

So my Sunkist
went and got hitched
Now that ring weighs down his hand
But baby I'm Eggplant
I could free you from your cage
Make you remember that you're Scarface
And the world is yours to take

 Now 800 miles
And two states separate us
But you came looking for me
Right when I was looking for you

I enjoyed this poem quite a bit. I liked how it was a short poem. I always like them. One thing I'd recommend though would be to maybe cut it down some more. For example, the second stanza uses the words "you" and "your" a lot. I'd try to see if there's a way to cut some out to prevent repetition. Also, I think the word "disapproved" sticks out a little in this piece. Maybe describe more specifically what that disapproving feeling is. But overall I did enjoy the poem.
