Eyes, Brilliant Blue

Eyes, Brilliant Blue

A Poem by Drea Dawson

You always reach out
When you’re too far away
I’m so angry
Cuz you had no right
Reminding me
I was doing just fine

You must’ve forgotten
Or maybe you don’t really know
How much I cried for you
Sprawled out on my living room floor
Eyes, brilliant blue
My ribbon in the wind
How dare you remind me
Of the space you left
Of how much I burned for you

You had eternity
In your eyes
And I just sat there
Waiting
Your eyes ate me
And I never
Ever forgot that feeling

Now, you’re back
It’s like you’re behind glass
I can’t touch you like I used to
And how dare you
For existing like that

I’m swirls of paint on a canvas
Poems written on a blackboard
Endless, raging seas for you
Broken strings on a harpsichord

You must’ve forgotten
Or maybe you don’t really know
How much I cried for you
Sprawled out on my living room floor
Eyes, brilliant blue
My ribbon in the wind
How dare you remind me
Of the space you left
Of how much I burned for you
