A Poem by Ookpik
"

A poem about love, and removing toxic people from your life.

"
Unfortunately, it's pretty simple;
Love and hate,
Respect and fear,
...
To some they are tools
And to others they are gifts.
...
Some will use one's love
To fulfill bad intentions,
As will some use fear.
...
To love somebody,
To truly love somebody,
Is to be willing to sacrifice everything,
Your car, your money, your body and your soul.
...
Anything less,
Is not quite exactly "True Love."
...
It may be reasonably close
But it is not Shakespearean love.
...
The kind of love
That radiates from a lighthouse
And lasts
Beyond the grave.
...
Some may forget,
That people do not just love their partner.
...
They love their family,
They love their friends,
They may love animals,
And they may even have that special kind of love
That is given to the ones that need it most.
...
The exhausting, fulfilling and truly exceptional
Altruistic love.
...
In this sense,
If love is magic,
And I truly believe that it is,
...
Then hate is a curse.
...
To be warded against,
With metaphorical lines of salt,
And runes of power.
...
To say that 'this is not how I should be treated',
Is the "Expecto Patronum,"
To another's "Crucio."
...
And everybody knows,
Unforgivable curses,
Will only get you expelled.
...

I'd like to add to your musings if I may. True love is " to be willing to sacrifice everything,
Your car, your money, your body and your soul." BECAUSE you know that they'd do the same for you in a heartbeat. There is no fulfillment in giving your all and receiving nothing in return. I really enjoyed this poem. I liked how you pointed out the different types/things we love: family, friends, pets etc Love is a weird word in that we can use it about anything from icecream to someone that we're willing to live with for the rest of our lives. Intriguing thoughts about hate being a curse. It's the opposite of love which makes me wonder if it's possible for one to exist without the other. Hmmmm *gets lost in thought for a bit* oh, btw, that's the sign of a good write! You make the reader think. :) Thanks for sharing

I could figure as soon as I started that I was in for a treat. Really well worded. All the best.

Thanks man, I really appreciate it : )
I really enjoyed this piece. :) Especially the 'spells' you incorporated in the poem, it made me miss Harry Potter. Anyway, the poem's beautifully and creatively written, for every line is meaningful and inspiring. Thanks for sharing this. But I do hope that you'd come up with titles for your poems, they deserve more than just being unnamed. :)

but thank you for the review : )
Very nicely written...Hate is a curse that most people believe to be a problem...Sometimes it's hate towards yourself, and somtimes it's hate towards other people...When we are hated we tend to hate in return. Same with love, if you've been loved then you are provoked to love in return...Thank you for writing this. May God bless your kindred heart in many ways...

Sincerely,
Tori...
