The Saddest Song I Know

The Saddest Song I Know

A Poem by Harrison Sherif

When people come up and ask me

Whats the saddest song you know?

Sit down I said

I will tell you the saddest song I know

The saddest song I know has no lyrics

Its melody is the sadness that is told

The same melody over and over again

But a different story is told

The saddest song I know is simple

Simple but powerful

In its execution you can feel the power

And feel the sadness in your heart become full

The saddest song I know is soft

Its light tones are pleasing to the ear

Its a soft that is chilling to the body

And one that brings out a tear

The saddest song I know is selective

Not everyone can hear its sorrow

Only a select few can

And they can relate to the sorrow

The saddest song I know combines these element

A simple, soft and powerful melody that clashes

So pleasing to the ear

It can be compared to floating Ashes

The saddest song I know

Is the one that only I can understand

People say they can

But no one but me can truly understand
