Emotions on the couch - Anxiety

Emotions on the couch - Anxiety

Emotions on the couch - Anxiety

Therapist:

Anxiety spread on the couch,

So much on her plate.

Tell me,

What brings you here?

Anxiety:

Abuse and comments,

Hurled at my existence.

Neglecting that the more they suppress me,

The less I keep my distance.

Investigating each passing moment.

'Reveal the rationale for your presence,

Your argument for dismantling elegance,

Lurking in corners once safe,

Setting physical and cognitive ransoms?'

Utter the truth,

Do I not make you alert?

Make you conscious to each secluded sound on Earth?

Without me,

You would surely be dead,

Heightened senses,

A few moments of sweat,

Minuscule sacrifices,

To evade catastrophic consequences.

There was no intention to kill your mood,

Depression and I spend a lot of time together,

One of the reasons you might have no hunger.

But in this business to enforce a point,

Direct and crude is the only counter.

So settle down,

Or I'll be contacting stress,

To twist your stomach in knots,

Persuade your bowels to make a mess.

Author's Note

Owen Aldin
About the anxious moments that can impede our lives, from the perspective of the emotion itself. Anxiety often comes co-morbid with depression, though it can be hard to detect in the early stages.
