Olsworth Doglington

Olsworth Doglington

A Poem by Owen Lewis
"

I had a dog once. His name was Ollie and he was a real character. I wrote this the day he died as the only tribute I could think of.

"

Black and white you charged around,

Eating all the things you found,

You barked at things I could not hear,

You filled the postman with fright and fear,

Countless letters you chewed on,

From bills to that thing from Amazon,

We wrestled on the carpeted floor,

Grappling hand met flailing claw,

You ate my favourite baseball cap,

You chased away the neighbour's cat,

You always had an itchy back,

Sorry to say you got quite fat,

There is an eerie silence now,

Iden Green misses the sound,

Across the town they heard your roar,

Alas my friend, you bark no more.
