Extraordinary

Extraordinary

I live in a world where
People tell me to be myself.
The same people then judge me
For being different than them.
What am I supposed to do when
Society tells me,
"Be yourself,
But make sure you're not too different.
Be unique,
but don't stand out too much."
I was told at a young age that
People will treat you differently if you are weird.
What is weird, I would ask...
It is funny how the world is an ordinary place,
And people's personalities put the extra in extraordinary.
It is funny how people who are normal
Wish that they were different.
And it is funny how people who are different
Wish to be normal like everybody else.
I live in a world where the only way it will except me
Is when I am not myself.
But to those who want to be different,
Why not break the chains and fly away?
And to those who want to be normal,
Why exchange your colorful world for a grey prison?

i've always wanted to be a normal child but being the way i was raised it wasn't easy and only recently have i loved my abnormality and i think everyone should love being different, even when they aren't accepted.. because in the end those people are just scared of being different themselves. really love this poem, I don't have any critics either.. just to keep writing!
