More Candy

More Candy

A Poem by Philip S.

I ate candy once upon a time…

Oh, that sour powder, lemon and lime!

10 pfennigs to bring my tongue abound

my head spinning ‘round and ‘round!

flirty my new candied spirit felt

More, More! Said I, as deceit was dealt

Into parent's bright-white room

“I’ll be fast…” “richer soon…”

Cherry red box - you hold a secret

“Just one little peek, can I get?”

There she was! My weighty nickel

5 Marks on my fingers, a conscience not fickle

My eyes so tuned to the glory in hand

Spinning! Spinning! each-every strand

                Oh I ate candy once
