What The World Is

What The World Is

A Poem by PadfootBlack
"

A song in dedication of Brandon and Mike

"

We all know what the world is

We all know the pain

We knew what we were in for

So we really

can't complain

But once in a while

we get a reminder

that the world is flawed

Though we wish

it'd be kinder

Brandon was 15

Good kid

Trouble-maker but damn

He could

make you laugh in the blink of an eye

He wanted to be a

biologist

Which was weird to his friends

But he didn't care

And neither did I

August 22

came around

and Brandon was in the

wrong place

at the

wrong time

Got shot up and died

And his momma

didn't even get to say

goodbye

I ain't ever gonna see

Brandon's smile

We all know what the world is

We all know the pain

We knew what we were in for

So we really

can't complain

But once in a while

we get a reminder

that the world is flawed

Though we wish

It'd be kinder

In a town nearby

A family cries

over a young life

taken too soon

Mike was tall like his dad

Enjoyed helping out

He was  blessing to all who knew him

It just takes one crash

one distracted driver

to end something

So precious

Now his girlfriend cries

over a silent shell

of the boy

she so loves

His dad sits alone

face buried in hands

trying to figure out

what happened

While his mom

sobs tears of one who's

lost more than can possibly be

imagined

We all know what the world is

We know the pain

We knew what we were in for

So we really

can't complain

But once in a while

we get a reminder

that the world is flawed

Though we still wish

it'd be kinder

The misery goes on

And the bombs keep exploding

We ask

Why it must happen this way

And all we can do

is just keep praying

and holding on

to each other tight

cause you never know

whether it's your last moment

your last day

your last night

live each minute

for God and for love

That's all that really matters

Anyway

So just keeping loving

and keep on singing

through the pain

sorrow and flaws

of life

We all know what the world is

We all know the pain

We knew what we were in for

So we really

can't complain

But once in a while

You get a reminder

That the world is flawed

Though we still wish

It'd be kinder

We know what the world is...

Yeah we know the pain...

We knew what we were in for

So we really

can't complain

Once in a while...

We get a reminder...

the world is flawed

But we still wish

it'd be kinder

We know what the world is.

The poem teaches me to appreciate friends and family. Old wisdom said never leave in the heat of a argument or go to sleep pissed off. Better to say kind words and love. Never know when we will see our friends again. the poem was powerful. So many examples of life lost for no reason. We need to be fearless. The world can be a scary place. A outstanding poem.

Nice piece.. it really reminds me of a song by POD, haha. Lyric-wise.

Great use of simplicity and emotion.. very nicely done. :)

Your song will keep the memories of Brandon and Mike alive.
You made a good choice to say life is not fair,(we both know, life did not come with a warranty); but to not wallow in the misery; you made a wise decision to go with hope.
