I have a question.

"
Two of my characters, a father and son, need to have a symbol between them, a way to say I love you without words. I need help deciding what have it be, and would greatly appreciate any help given!

Please note: It must be something relatively small, seeing as the father has to do it on the ground as he's dying.

Hey there! This is an interesting question. I'm reminded of a time when as a child I was upset about something and my grandfather drew some pictures to try to cheer me up. They were god-awful and we both ended up laughing over it. Maybe earlier in the story something like this can happen between the father and the son. When the father draws the same thing on the ground with his final act it would let the son know, as it did before, that everything is going to be ok. The symbol itself could be anything, like a small pig face or bear paw print or whatever fits well into the rest of the story. Hope this helps!

Are you looking for an overall symbol that is shown through out the story or just a way to show love between father and son? I think your looking for the latter.
Ways to show love not tell:
Looking into each others eyes
holding hands
Stroking of the face (like Daughter of Evil said)

the death of a parent is very heartbreaking. I hope this helps. Good luck.

Hmmm... Maybe the father could just like reach up and touch the boy (like on his cheek or his face, or if the boy is crying he could wipe away a tear or something)... Idk if that helps, but that's usually that I think of.. or they could just look in each other eyes and have that soppy "i love you" look? Dunno!
