My Cross

My Cross

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

My Cross

I am but death upon your pillow,

I wait patiently to smother your life;

to end the very being you are.

I have no remose, no regret.

I simply slay.

That is my reason d’etre.

You cannot fault me

for I have no malice,

I am no Maladovic,

I simply have a role to play.

Be it in endings as it may

but that is MY cross to bear.
