The Space Between

The Space Between

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

The Space Between

I fear death more than dying.

Dying only happens once,

whereas death

goes on for a long time.

“To infinity and beyond!”

“Are you Toying with me?”

I hear you ask

“What me joke

about my own demise?

Well..

maybe just  a little.”

I have no God

and am making peace

with myself.

Peace enough to comprehend

that death is a fact,

a stone cold certainty.

So I’d rather fill

the space between

with poetry.

Hi John, this poem is very good. I love your comparison between space (i.e. a gap) and the duration of someones life, something people percieve as a long time when really its relatively short.
Interesting to me, if I write a chapter of a book, I can fit a great deal of information into a passage and not communicate everything. Here you have 20 lines or a few sentences and you have communicated so much information, especially emotionally loaded points that make me (and probably others) thing a great deal. Congratulations, this is very powerful. Lenny

I'm sorry if I can't relate with the no God issue and what ever your reason for not believing him is not my business so I wont offend you...
Death is sure fearful than dying because you can die literally... And that hurts...

Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
