A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

In Search

You didn’t ask to read my poetry,

I wasn’t that interesting to you;

just a passing phase.

A surrogate for you to use

to test your plight.

Expendable,

no intrinsic value.

Simply a moment, an hour, a day

for you to fill with me

to give you hope.

So I was just an exam to pass

as you move on to higher learning

and wage war with your soul

in search of your true identity.
