Concrete In Your Heart

Concrete In Your Heart

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

Concrete In Your Heart

Your reincarnation did not last.

You returned with no more wisdom

than before;

No further offering,

no insight,

no promises.

Deeds expressed your intent,

but words were never mine

to tell me how you felt.

And when I asked,

silence created doubt,

spread a plague of suspicion.

Would it last?

Was there a future?

Did you care for me?

And now the second ending has come

and your fear

is set like concrete in your heart.

And so it sometimes goes. I've known a few like this, with concrete in their hearts, speaking sweet words planted on a base of sand.

Yup all too true!
An upsetting circumstance that you described beautifully." ...like concrete in your heart." I love that! Well done!

One thing, 'concrete' needs the final 'e' in your title. :)

well spotted!!!! Thanks.
Ouch, shaking my head, finding this reincarnation almost too truthful. Your words are placed very carefully but almost every sentence holds a shadow of 'there could be more..'
