Cerridwen

Cerridwen

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

The crone

"

Cerridwen

Celtic hag,

darker aspects of the crone belie

the powers of prophesy you keep

as you protect the cauldron

where knowledge and inspiration are secreted

in the belly of the underworld.

Your children are both fair and dark

Clearwy as light as snow

Morfran ugly and malevolent

as the depths of hell.

This legend has men of Harlech

fighting for their lives

Cambria live for aye!

Thank you Claire
My peeps on my mother's side hail from Northern Ireland...I am woefully uninformed when it comes to the Irish culture and folklore, though...such a shameful admission. I took a great deal of pleasure from this read, John...thank you so much for sharing it with us.

Gle math agus slainte ! I know Scottish Gael not Welsh. Cerriwden's famous cauldron. Its not just Red Horned Cattle or Silver fleeced sheep you get out of that. Excellent Bardic creation.
