The Sword That Was Broken

The Sword That Was Broken

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

The Sword That Was Broken

Cover your eyes as sparks fly

and upon the anvil of Arda

is melded chisel and haft

with which Isildur did smite

the ring from Sauron’s wicked digit.

Reborn from Narsil’s shards

it rose as the flame of the West

and in Aragorn’s mighty hand,

proclaimed this heir of Isildur

the rightful king of Gondor.

With few words you bring in the whole story, now this is a condensed version. Also this would make a great rock song

Better not start singing!
I have always felt this is the kind of work John does very well, dramatic words with a formal historical or
literary background. Good one !

Wouldn't it be great to go walking and stumble upon hill homes with round doors and little people with hairy feet? I keep looking...

One day Mark, one day. Thanks for reading.
Definitely in the fantasy realm and conjures images of the dark and medievial. I could see reds and greens in this. Enjoyed this Jon.

Many thanks Jack. Middle Earth is the place of legend!
this kind of poem is not really my cup of tea...but, john, you got me with this one...

my favorite books i ever read...The Hobbit, the Lord of the Rings, the Simarillion"

read them all several times...and the poem is befitting.

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
