If Heaven Knew

You overcame the love

you professed with ease.

His satanic demands

now you serve to please.

And you do leave me parched,

have stolen all the bread and fruits,

left me scratching dusty earth

and shrivelled, rotting roots.

The roots of love’s true smile,

the tango of desire

we once danced

that set our hearts afire.

Oh how heaven opened

to us then,

who could predict

that it would ever end?

And now I sit alone

my dreams all dashed

upon such a salty death

and all my hope is lost.
