Breaking the Cycle

Breaking the Cycle

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Love addiction.

"

Breaking the Cycle

The dregs of love

have long been washed

from my cup.

I have supped

there often,

imbibed the heady

caffeine until

so intoxicated

I could not stand.

All I wanted

was the free refill,

more of their toxins

flowing in my blood

as the endorphins

multiplied.

But little did I see

the poison

I had been tricked

to ingest,

the seeping septic arsenic

they had bid me swallow.

But I,

I am made of sterner stuff

than their venom can command.

Now I am reformed,

purged, detoxified.

Cured of this addiction.

And from now

trust will be

an empty dry affair.

i really like this....it is like a dormant disease resting within the heart, and at any time it can become active again and hurt us even more deeply.

Thank you so much FCB!
I really liked this John. One thing...(he said like Columbo) lol... this part -

"I had been tricked
to ingest,
the seeping septic arsenic
they had bid me swallow.
Now I am reformed,
now I am cured
of this addiction." - I'd liked to have seen more on the whys and wherefores of the transition from potential death (arsenic) to cured - i know its all metaphorical but I still would have liked to read about some failure of their part to use enough poison or some miracle that enabled the cure.

Ugh.. it is hard to break addictions, especially when as you described so well, the injected poison travels from the heart to the brain.
What a sad ending.. :(

Really poignant!

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
