Reflections on a Life

Reflections on a Life

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

Reflections on a Life

There I lie

in the distant hypnagogic visions of my mind.

Oh so many breaths taken

and exhumed.

Oh so many bridges crossed,

so many falls into troubled,

brackish, waters.

I was once naked with peach like skin

but it no longer holds firm.

Once innocent and hopeful.

Once full of joie de vivre.

The mirror now reflects a void,

a gap in excited youthful expectation

that yawns in Cheyne-Stokes gasps

of defeated exasperation,

and the putrid stench of surrender.

Yes no matter how old we get, one cannot live like the young days that we did. Sometimes its better to forget than have a lifetime remembering that special moment.

it is so sad when we surrender...when life beats us down enough that we cry "uncle"--

our bodies break down...our minds waver, and our optimism is stifled....we grow up, we lose innocence and we gain cynicism.

well expressed in this poem...

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
