![]() FeederA Poem by John Alexander McFadyen![]() Nature works in amazing ways. Inspired by Louise Glück's 'Snowdrops'.![]() Through winter's tears I was born, cocooned. Spring came and I grew, unfurled in fresh colours washed by renewal, rejuvenated by the prospect of endless days in the fresh air, fluttering in a warm breeze. I clung, a small patchwork sail on a branch, and stretched out my veins, filtering the sun to feed the life-giving sap to my mother, whose time on the earth is surely more certain than my own. For come autumn I shall be blown in the teeth of searing winds that will tug and pull and tear me from my summer perch, until I release my hold on my dear short life and parachute to the ground, to rest between blades of grass, or be buffeted and swept into a huddle under the gate or a pile clumped beneath the hedgerow. There my colour will ebb and I will curl and crisp as winter winds and frost's cruel bite do take their toll, and putrefaction will be my fate as I decay and return to feed the soil. 08/10/20 © 2020 John Alexander McFadyenAuthor's Note

People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..Writing
