This Morning

This Morning

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

So good to wake feeling rested.

"

I am in aspic

as I begin to

surface from dreams.

My body and mind

are relaxed.

I cannot,

dare not

move lest the spell

shatter and break.

Light has yet

to catch up with

day and in the silence

of the dark,

peace is in every

soft shallow breath,

contentment behind

my nightish eyes.

Sleep has been good.

The night calm,

should I lay here

a little longer?

But slowly I push

wakefulness

into my lungs

and rise.

A savory jelly to spread on the toast of my early morning awakenings before that light crests

Indeed so Sir. Many thanks for reading.
Sounds though you were in an ideal place. A night sweet dreaming. Warm and cosy. I can perfectly understand not wanting to break the spell. Enjoyed this free verse and it's flow. Thank you John.

Thank you Chris. I always love those days that begin in this way.
seems my own dreams are as i wake .. i always want to stay in that place and keep dreaming ... restful sleep alludes so many of us ... the description leading up to feelings of peace in every corner is poignant .. for me .. you poem leads me there and i feel it .. "nightish eyes" ..."push(ing) wakefulness into my lungs" ..luv it! ... simply stated in easy language hits the mark ... nice one says i! :) i did have to look up aspic tho .. interesting choice .. i have seen dishes like that but they never appealed to me .. all that gel and who knows what mixed in ..but as we wake there is a feeling of gelling so to speak ... nice to have a good sleep now and again .. :)

Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
