In Defiance of Time

In Defiance of Time

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Sap still flows through ancient trees.

"

I shall not close the gates

as my erection begins.

Here on earth

the sun and the moon

have swapped places

above my head

all too many times.

I may be beaten,

I may have grown

a little stale,

less bronzed.

less lean,

less able

to swing my battle axe.

But I am still afire

with yearning,

and passion

and ambition,

and youthful

determination.

And I will not

be silenced.
