Tolerance is a Dark Horse

Tolerance is a Dark Horse

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

I tend to tolerate most things except................................................

"

Do not strain my patience,

for it is a taut cable

that is likely to snap

like a whip.

I will not indulge

fools.

I will not entertain

stupidity.

I will not tolerate

disrespect.

I will not

accept uninformed

waffle

or platitudes.

So do not test

me on this

for my response

will be swift,

decisive

and sure.

nice job sir! the direct, precise statements of position and intent are refreshing .. this "speaker" is a friend worth having .. one who tells it like it is without hurtful intent .. the warning is clear .. you must have been talking politics eh1? ;))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Well penned free verse John. You certainly convey with clarity how you stand on certain issues. I think tolerance is a virtue and try my best to practice it. I notice that there are x alot of 'I will nots' in this verse. I would have though tolerance was anything but a dark horse though. Hope you have a happy Sunday. Sun has just peeped through, so good for gardening.

I believe there's a difference between being ignorant and being uninformed. We must first ask if someone has been exposed to the same information we have been exposed to. People who grow up in cults, for example, may need some extra guidance when exposed to the rest of society. We must then ask if the person is open-minded enough to listen. Approach gently and see what happens. We must also admit to ourselves that we could learn something from this interaction. Of course, there are times when we may be too busy or tired to make the attempt. There are times when we must shake the dust from our feet (Matthew 10:14).

Overall, I believe that reaching out to other humans is an important part of being human. If we lose that, what are we? As my dad likes to say: "One monkey is no monkey."

Me too my friend. Old age had gave me less patience to do with the foolish people. I have limited time for people who like to waste time and words. Hello John and thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.
